Nolan Davis Contracting Hires Crusher To Recycle Material At Nuffield Theatre

Red Rhino customer, Gyles Construction Ltd in Southampton, hired his 5020 series crusher to Nolan Davis Contracting Ltd earlier this month.
Nolan Davis Contracting, also based in Southampton, has a wide range of expertise and experience in old and new construction techniques and regularly acts as principle contractor for many major sites. The company covers most construction trades and their Small Works department carries out reactive and planned maintenance along with small contracts. The Contracts division undertakes contracts up to £2 million.
Mr Lee Shirley regularly hires Gyles Construction for brick laying jobs at some of their projects. Mr Shirley decided to give the Red Rhino a go at a recent job at The Nuffield Theatre in Southampton.
The Nuffield Theatre, located centrally on the University of Southampton campus, is the only producing theatre in the area and became an independently run charitable trust in 1982, originally opened in 1964 following a substantial grant from the Nuffield Foundation. It is now a vital cultural and artistic resource for the city and the surrounding region. The main house theatre seats 480 with an additional 80 seat studio space and produces high quality shows as well as highly acclaimed educational and participatory activities for people of all ages and abilities.
Nolan Davis Contracting remodeled the entrance of the theatre and were using the Red Rhino 5020 series crusher for one day to crush all of the existing paving slabs and re-use it for a new soft and hard landscape scheme. The project also included the construction of a canopy and installation of new glazing.
“Normally we would just place the rubble in a skip and buy back whatever material we needed,” said Mr Shirley. “However, we are becoming more and more aware of the impact the construction industry have on the environment and Nolan Davis Contracting are trying to do their bit by using more environmentally friendly methods onsite which also promotes good business practice within our establishment.”
Mr Shirley was very impressed with the Red Rhino crusher and when asked what his overall thoughts were, he exclaimed on the fact that it is an excellent machine and extremely user friendly! “I would definitely use the crusher again; it makes environmental sense to reduce road pollution from vehicles by reusing existing materials on site and to reduce excavations of limestone from quarries. The financial benefits of using a crusher are also a bonus, especially in the current economic climate,” said Mr Shirley.
