Market Update

THE MARKETPLACE
The construction industry currently produces 120 million tonnes of waste every year. Around 20 million tonnes of this waste end up in landfill with no reuse and no intrinsic value.
In financial terms the UK is spending £1bn to dump waste in a landfill site.
The cost of landfill is rising by £8 per tonne every year and with fuel costs rising this figure will increase if we do not make some drastic changes to the way we handle our construction waste.
Why would you want to pay all these rising costs when you can crush your concrete and relay the crushed material down as your base product? … Or better still sell it!
It just makes financial sense to crush your concrete as well as preserving our environment. Owning a Red Rhino crusher will offer you the chance to earn money by hiring it out, save money on your own jobs and more importantly look after the environment we live in

Sales of our crushers have really started to take off in the last 6 months. Red Rhino have recently appointed a Sales Manager to handle this increasing demand

In terms of sales, Jason Purllant, our new Sales Manager formally of JCB, reports that, with the upturn in the construction industry, sales volume is now starting to increase. “Our view is that we now may be coming out of the recession,” he says. “We are certainly receiving more enquiries and there have been increases in orders.
But it’s not just the UK market; Jason says he receives internet enquiries from all over the world. The world market is focused on recycling concrete… we need to be the same in the UK
Jason pointed out that the UK is a long way behind the rest of the world in recycling terms. We especially need to review the way we handle the millions of tonnes of construction waste the UK is producing.
The UK only recycles 15% of all the waste it produces compared to Denmark who recycle 90%. Jason pointed out that we have a long way to go to catch up on our European neighbours. This market is set to grow over the next 5 years.

THE FUTURE
The crushing market is set to grow bucking the general trend of the construction industry. Increasing EU pressure is forcing all businesses to consider how they handle their construction waste. Any construction project over £300,000 by law now has to have written statement showing how they propose to handle the waste they produce from the project.
